Running
Running or jogging is a great cardio-vascular (fitness) exercise
but takes its toll on many joints and muscles. Runners must be
‘in shape’ to run so that they do not injure themselves.
Many do not realize the stress and strain made on many muscles
who now have to work ‘together’ to provide the strength
and endurance needed for this activity.
The physiotherapists at The Downtown Clinic are able to assess
muscle weakness (hips, low back are the main culprits) discuss
the use of orthotics and proper shoe-wear and help you develop
a graduated program of stretching, strengthening and endurance
training.
Ensuring you can stay on your feet – and run- without any
discomfort will make your exercise program both beneficial and
enjoyable.

Tempero-Mandibular
Joint (TMJ ) Program
The tempero-mandibular joint is located between the temporal bone
on the side of your skull (yours upper jaw) and the upper part
of the mandible bone (your lower jaw).Tempero-mandibular (TMJ)
joint or tempero-mandibular dysfunction (TMD) refers to problems,
and usually pain with the TMJ and the muscles in the face and
neck. People with TMD may experience headaches, neck pain and/
or stiffness, a tired or tight feeling in the jaw and even at
times problems beyond (referred) the TMJ itself, i.e. into the
teeth.
TMJ is often a component of pain resultant from whiplash-type
accidents or other neck pain.
A complete assessment of the jaw and neck includes obtaining information
on postural alignment and muscle imbalances. The use of ultra-sound,
TENS, heat and exercises will assist with resolution of symptoms.
