 About the Staff

gloria@downtownclinic.ca .

As a health professional with an appreciation of the significant changes patients often have to make ‘adjust' to a compromised lifestyle (because of injury, illness, disease), Gloria has continued to integrate a goal setting approach into all treatment programs.

PGAP (Progressive Goal Attainment Program) has become a successful program designed to help individuals re-integrate into their former life roles. Gloria has attended this course and is also a PGAP (www.PDP-PGAP.com) provider.

Many years of clinical practice in the area of pain management encouraged Gloria to return to university. In 2002 she received a Master of Science (M.Sc.) Degree from UWO.

Her thesis examined changes in ‘position sense’ in patients with chronic neck pain (Cervico-cephalic Kinaesthesia in Subjects with Chronic Neck Pain).

This topic continues to challenge Gloria and her colleagues. It is now better recognized that after cervical (neck) trauma (previously thought of as only injury to the soft tissue structures), there is often other associated injury. The effects of trauma are often associated with signs and symptoms suggestive of Mild Traumatic Brain Injury- and include vestibular (balance) and visual changes, tinnitus (ringing in the ears) as well as memory and concentration difficulties.

An enthusiastic speaker, educator and advocate for the chronic pain patient, Gloria continues to be a mentor to her physiotherapy colleagues, in the area of pain assessment and treatment programs.
